Now that it is September, have you pulled out your fall decorations? I haven’t quite yet. This is a post that I shared over at The Wood Connection a few weeks back, and I’m excited to share it here. These are a couple of the products from their Fall line of products, Stacking Leaves and Acorns. I love the fall season, and I’m excited it is getting close. I love the crispness in the air and all of the fall colors.
I started by tracing all of the different pieces of the acorns, onto the paper that I wanted. Then I cut the paper out. I chose a couple of coordinating paint colors for the sides, and painted the wood then using wood glue, I glued the paper down, tied the ribbon and leaf on, and I was finished.
I am totally in love with these fall stacking leaves! They are the perfect shape and they were fun to finish, although somewhat time consuming, because of all the detail on them. To finish these, I traced my leaves onto the paper, and then cut the paper out. Then I painted the edges of the leaves. Once the paint was dry, I used wood glue to adhere the paper to the wood, then I distressed the edges of the leaves.
Once I had the leaves looking like I wanted the, I used some Rustic Twisted Wire to wrap around my leaves, then I added a small piece of ribbon.
I really adore the way both of these projects turned out! I can’t wait to pull out all the rest of my fall decorations, and for it to change to fall outside as well.
Do you have your fall decorations out yet, or are you waiting a little longer.

Lovely ideas! Can I ask a technique question? When you glue paper into a wooden item do you coat the top of the paper in too too? How to do ensure the edges don’t lift without having glue oozing out if the sides? X
Hi Natalie,
Sometimes when I use mod podge, I do put a top coat on, but when I use the wood glue, I don’t put anything on top. To make sure that all of the edges are glued down well, I make sure and get the glue all the way to the edges, and then I use a pampered chef scrapper (little brown square thing) or a credit card would work too, and I smooth my paper out really well. If I have glue ooze out the sides, I just wipe it off with a wet wipe. Hope that makes sense. 🙂

Very festive! I love the yellow honeycomb paper. Sometimes I decorate over Labor Day weekend, but with temperatures in the 90s it was hard to get in the mood! I think I may wait until the official first day of fall this year.
I’m visiting from The 36th Avenue link party.
