I’m so excited to be a part of the Fall Harvest Blog Hop today. I’m going to show you how I painted this fun DIY Rustic Autumn Sign. I loved making it! I think one of my favorite parts about it is the wood that I put it on. It was different than the wood I usually use.
You’ll need a few supplies:
- Wood (I made my own board, using some 1×3 boards)
- Vinyl (I cut mine using my Cricut Explore Machine)
- Vinyl squeegee
- Paint (Colors of your choice)
- Paint brushes
- Sanding block
Paint your board white. It won’t matter if it is perfectly painted, because you’ll be distressing it.
Once you have the white paint on it, use your sanding block (or electric sander) to lightly distress the white paint.
Measure where you want your vinyl to be, and put it down. Use the squeegee to push it down really well all over the board. Because of the seams in the wood, it probably won’t stick down perfectly, but it will work.
Paint your words. I was careful to not get paint in the seams of the boards.
I did two coats of paint, and then took the vinyl off. Once the paint is dry, you are ready to distress your lettering. I used the sanding block for this.
Now your sign is finished! It is the perfect Rustic Sign for Autumn. I love this time of year, it is my very favorite season! It is my favorite weather, I love the chill in the air, the changing leaves, and the colors use in decorating. I’m excited to have this fun sign on my shelf for the Fall season.
I personally think the distressing on this sign is the perfect finishing touch.
