There are a few things that I really enjoy creating. One of them is banners and the other is painted signs. I love pairing pretty fonts together and using paint to bring them to life. I decided that painting a sign would be a great idea for a Mother’s Day gift, and now I think I might just keep this sign as a gift to myself. 😉 Today, I’m sharing with you how I made this Mother’s Day Sign Gift Idea.

Mother’s Day Sign Gift Idea Supplies:
- Wood Slat Board (12 x 8)
- Cricut Explore Air 2
- Cricut Mat
- Cricut Essentials Tool Kit – Mint
- Vinyl
- Paint
- Paint Brush
- Ribbon
Cut a piece of vinyl to be the size that you need for your project. Place it on your cutting mat and smooth it out with the scraper tool. Cut your design. (I put mine in the machine and let it cut while I was helping my kids with something, so I missed getting a picture.)
While your vinyl is cutting, go ahead and paint your board white.
Once your vinyl is cut, weed out the letters, creating a reverse stencil. Place transfer tape over the top of your stencil. Peel the backing off of your stencil, place it on your board, then peel the transfer tape off of the front.
Once you have your stencil on your board, use the scraper tool one more time to make sure it is pressed on there really well. Paint your letters. Once painted, carefully peel the stencil off. I had a few places that I needed to pull the centers of the letters out once I had the vinyl pulled off, so I used the weeding tool from the tool kit.
This Cricut Essentials Tool Kit in Mint has all the essential tools you need for any project but I think my favorite part is that it matches my machine, so when Cricut offered to send me one, I didn’t say no. 🙂 The weeding tool worked like a charm to get all those small pieces out.
Once I had the sign all painted and the vinyl pulled off, I decided to add a ribbon.
For now, this sign is sitting on the shelf in my living room.
While I love this quote and it’s great for Mother’s Day, I think I might leave this quote up all year because I like it so much!
If you’re looking for a last minute gift to give to mom or grandma, then this sign is a great idea. Another great idea would be to give mom a new Cricut Explore Air 2 machine. Go in on it as siblings or get her one herself, either way, she is sure to love it!
When you give her that new machine, be sure to let her know that Cricut Design Space is easy to learn and use, so there are no worries there! If you’re looking for more fun sign ideas, then check out my gallery HERE.
