Have you ever seen one of these cute little bags made out of a place mat? You may have seen one and not even known it. I’ve seen a few and quite a while back, I bought me a few place mats at Wal-mart (for around $1) just so I could try and make one sometime. Well, last week, I was having a really rough day, and I decided to sew, to try and relieve some stress. I was going to work on some the the Bow Tucks Tote’s that I’ve had cut out for a while, but before I got started on that, I decided to try this! Would you believe that it only took me about 30 to make this little bag. It did! I was so excited when I was done, and that I had figured it all out on my own, just from seeing others. I may have a tutorial coming sometime, if any are interested.
It used about 2 yards of this cute pink grosgrain ribbon with white stitching on the edges. I just cut 4 random circles (not perfect circles at all!) out of some scrap fabric I have, and then added the button and hand sewed it on.
Here is the flower up close. I wish I would have stitched around the flower edges, just so it wouldn’t fray so much, but I didn’t think of that until it was too late.
It doesn’t have any pockets on the inside, and I wish it did. I’ve been trying to think of how I could add some. I’ll be sure to let you know if I think of a way.

I love the ribbon idea instead of the purse handles! I’ve made one with pockets — I used a coordinating napkin sewn on the “wrong” side …..I was using a quilted placemat so my sewing lines were invisible for the most part….
super cute! I totally want to make one.
So cute! I’d love to see a tutorial! My kiddos are always looking at the place mats and napkins while we shop. I’m not sure why those items in particular, but they love the kitchen/housewares section! There have been some cute place mats that I haven’t let them buy because I didn’t think they’d look right on our table – but a tote! Now, that’s a clever idea! I would love to do something like this the next time they see something they love!
oh my goodness! please do a tutorial! this is just TOO CUTE!!! i hope to hear from you soon!

That turned out so cute! I would love if you would come over MyCraftieLife.blogspot.com and link up to Tuesday Tell All!
This is such a cute purse! I definitely love the ribbon handles. It adds the color and cuteness that help make this purse adorable!
Hi… I’m your newest follower.
so cute, just what little Miss Becca needs. Guess I better get my sewing machine fixed quick so I can try your tutorial.
