Patriotic Craft

So yesterday when I jumped on the blog to see what fun new thing Amy posted I couldn’t believe that she had made a 4th of July decoration very similar to what I was working on. (all I had left to do was buy some more skewers) As she said in the giveaway post here we are best friends living in different states and I knew right off that if we were still living next door to each other we would no doubt have made our patriotic decor together. *sniff sniff… 😉
I WAS going to punch a cirlcle out to go in the middle and then a big button on top of that, but I liked her 3D stars better so took the buttons off.
I used the accordian technique she taught us from her super cute Halloween banner and made them in two different sizes.

I too wanted the stars that were cut in the can to pop so I put card stock behind them. Then I filled them with Red, White and Blue crinkle paper from the dollar tree.

My amazing sister wrote an incredible book about the Amendments to the Constitution. You must get this book!!! She teaches all 27 Amendments in detail yet in a very simple way to read and understand them. I am a very visual person and as it says on her website it “turns words into pictures” . It’s very kid friendly so if you and your family want to understand and appreciate this great land that we live in go check out her website

and get yourself a copy. You won’t regret it.

I wanted to come up with something to show my sister how proud of her I am so I decided to make one of these cute decorations too.

My daughter saw these and said “ooohhhh fireworks” Yay…I thought they looked like fireworks too. I used white core cardstock and I like the distressed look it gave to the star.
Instead of using crinkley paper I filled the bottom of her can with partriotic tootsie rolls. How cute are those.

I absolutely LOVE 4th of july decortaions. Besides halloween, the 4th is my favorite holiday to decorate for. what’s yours?

Great minds think alike! I wish we could have made our decor together! These are SO cute! I love the accordion folder paper behind the stars. Great idea! I love that you put candy in the one can. Her kids will love it! I’m going to have to check out her website.

I forgot to say what my favorite holiday to decorate for is…I love decorating for Halloween (Fall) and Christmas. But I’m really loving the 4th decor too!
