Wood Plaque with Our Song

I had great intentions of making this project before Valentine’s Day and possibly giving it to my husband for his gift.  Well, that didn’t happen, but it is something that can be left out all year, so I decided to make it anyway.  I had a song in mind that I considered to be “Our Song” but I didn’t know if my husband had the same song in mind, so I asked him.  He thought of the same song when I asked him what he thought our song was.  It isn’t a song that is played on the radio, it is done by the Nashville Tribute Band.  (If you’d like to hear it, click here.) We’ve been to their concert a couple of times and just love their music. I think that both my husband and I thought it was “Our Song” ever since the first time we heard it, even though we didn’t talk about it being our song. 🙂

I’ll show you how I made this.  I painted my block (I picked this up from The Wood Connection) white, and then using my Cricut and Cricut Craft Room I cut some chevrons to use as a stencil.  Then I took my gray paint and painted over the stencil.  After that, I took the stencil off and distressed it with sand paper.

I listened to the song, and got it all written out and then I designed it how I wanted it in Cricut Craft Room.  Once I got it designed I cut it out of vinyl and then put it on my board.  Then I painted it all the lighter blue.  I was worried that the lighter blue wouldn’t show up as well, so I decided to use a little bit darker blue to bring out a few of the words.  I love the way it helped them pop!
Once I got the words all done, I peeled up the vinyl stencil and distressed the words as well.

On the darker words you can kind of see how the lighter blue peeks thru the distressing.

I painted my finial gray and then distressed it too.

I am seriously in love with the way this turned out!  I have it on a shelf in my room right now, and I am loving the chance to look at it and remind me of my husband.
