I’m so excited to be teaming up with a handful of other bloggers each month to bring you the Monthly Craft Challenge. This month we were challenged to do something with flowers. While I was working on this I was trying to think of something that could be on display for Spring and into the Summer since Summer is coming! This is what I decided to do.

I had this fun wood slat board that I picked up and I painted it white. Then using my Cricut, I cut this Dahlia out of vinyl to use for a stencil. I started by painting the outer edge with the red color that I had, and then I added some white paint to it each time I was moving inward on the petals, making the center circle the lightest in color.
Once I had it all painted, I distressed it with some fine grain sand paper. I love that you can see the wood grain when you do this technique.
I finished it off by tying a couple of ribbons on it at the bottom.
I adore the way that this turned out and it was so simple and quick to make. I’m excited that I can be used through the summer months as well.
I hope you’ll pop on over and see the rest of the projects that the other bloggers created! They are so talented!

Way way cute!
So, so cute! I have a Cricut too. What cartridge did you use for your dahlia? Thanks so much for sharing your great idea. Have a wonderful weekend!
I used the Martha Stewart Birthday Cake Art cartridge.
This is so gorgeous!! I am totally going to do something similar for my friend’s daughter’s room that I am helping her with right now… but since I don’t have a cutter I may have to get creative. You could probably use premade vinyl decals and paint over them and then peel to leave a reverse stencil? Thanks for sharing this!!
Krista @ thehappyhousie
I would think you could for sure! Good Luck!
I really love this! I’m thinking of something like this for my daughter’s room – great job! Found you via Whipperberry Link party 🙂

LOVE this!! Fabulous job! :*)
Sooo pretty, yet so simple! Love it! Even though you used different tones, it doesn’t scream ombre, and I love that! Just subtle enough.(I’m kinda over the whole ombre trend, ok well I just don’t like trends) And also love the wood grain showing through, and just… well love it all!

Just saw this from your post on Facebook. I love it!! How big is the flower? I’m thinking that I would love to make something like this, but I wanted to know how much wood to get. Thanks!
The board I used is about 11″ x 18″, so I think the flower is about 9″ around. 🙂
