How was your weekend? Ours was good. We got our garden planted and Mother’s Day was nice. I got some of the cutest things from my boys. I love the cute homemade gifts that I get each year!
Today I want to share with you how I make my diaper cakes. Diaper cakes are nothing new, they’ve been around for a few years. I remember seeing one about 5 years ago and thought it was so clever. I made my first one about 3 1/2 years ago. Have you ever made a diaper cake? They are quite easy to make. Today I’m sharing a few of my tricks to get it just right.
First tip: Rolling the diapers. I roll them with the top part in the center of the roll. That way the majority of what you see is white. Once I had them rolled nice and tight, I secured them by using Washi Tape. I wrapped it all the way around the diaper to make it secure. Second tip: Once you have them all rolled up, grab some twine and loosely wrap it around your diapers as you are standing them up inside the twine. Once you have it about the size that you want, tie your twine. Now, it won’t be really tight, so slide the diapers around (inside the twine) and make room for more diapers and slide them in where they will fit. This will make them all nice and tight. I also twist the outer edges diapers so they are all smooth on the outside. Repeat this step until you have however many layers of the cake that you want.
For the topper on this cake, I used paper straws and made a washi tape banner with twine. It was so simple, but was the perfect touch.
The fun part comes when you get to embellish each layer. I used paper stripes, and ribbon to make this cake look cute.
So what do you think? Does it make you want to make one for a gift or baby shower? I think they are a fun center piece for a baby shower. It does take a little bit of time to roll all the diapers, but it is a very simple project to do.
