I am Brave and Beautiful – a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. My blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “
Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.
Me along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag – #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!
Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!
This is my headshot. I had this picture taken specifically to use for blogging. I use it on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Google +, and here on this blog, and it is also on my business cards for this blog. I love this picture. It is my real smile, I like the way I look in it, this picture makes me feel beautiful. In reality though, below is what I look like at least five days of the week.
If you ran into me on the street or at the store, this is probably what you’d find me looking like. My hair is naturally curly (which I don’t love), but most days I put some mousse in it, and leave it curly, simply because it is quick and easy to do. I only wear make up about once a week, usually for church on Sunday. Occasionally I’ll wear it on other days. There are some days that I don’t feel very beautiful, mostly because of the acne and such on my face. I’ve always had acne, it has always been a problem for me. I would have thought by my mid 30’s that I wouldn’t have it anymore, but I do. When I sit back and think about whether I’m beautiful or not, I am reminded that I AM BEAUTIFUL. It doesn’t matter what others might think of me, my acne, my naturally curly hair, my weight, or anything else. I know that I am a Daughter of God and he loves me just the way I am! I love the book You Are Special, it is a great book to remind us all of our potential, and not worrying about what others may think of us. My best friend gave it to me for my birthday this past year, she knew that I’d had some struggles, and it really couldn’t have been a more perfect gift.
I’ll be honest, posting this picture of me without makeup was hard for me. Even though I look like this most of the time, (I’ve occasionally shared no makeup/curly hair pictures on Instagram) here on The Happy Scraps, I don’t. That nice headshot above, I like it. I’m glad I have it. I probably should update it with a new one though, my hair is a lot shorter now. 🙂 Anyway, I like my headshot, and when I do my hair and makeup (other than my hair being shorter now) that is what I look like.
Don’t stop here. Get clicking around – its a blog hop! Below are more brave and beautiful women bearing more than their natural beauty. They each have a little bit of their heart to share with you. Some get very personal. Some share stories. For some this was very hard to do yet they gathered their courage and did it anyway. We hope as you click around (and YES pin these different posts!) you will feel the importance of it, the empowering effect it has and that it encourages you in some way.

Amy you are so beautiful!!! I just love this blog post and think it is such a great idea! I do love your curly hair. It is funny, my hair is stick straight and I have always wished i could have curly hair. We always wish for what we don’t have. 🙂

Summer, Thank you! You are too sweet. So grateful to have you for a friend! It seems like anytime I say I wish my hair was straight, that someone tells me they wish their straight hair was curly. I’m sure I would feel the same way if my hair was straight. 🙂
I love your honesty. You’re beautiful.

great post today, just what I needed to hear, I wasn’t feeling very beautiful on the outside today and struggle with whats more important. Puts me back in perspective!

I can’t believe that none of your kids got curly hair! I’ve seen pictures with your husbands hair, it is way curly. Thank you, it’s not exactly fun posting a make-less picture on the old blog, but knowing that so many others were doing it at the same time made it a little easier.
you are awesome! thank you for sharing so many brave and beautiful pieces of you!!! ps – I still get break outs too! 🙂 you are not alone. xo
