The last week has been a pretty crazy one for our family. Maybe you’ve noticed, there has been a little bit less going on around The Happy Scraps the last little while.
Last Monday was the first no school day of our week long spring break. We didn’t have any plans to do anything big, but hang out and do some things close to home. Monday morning we got a phone call letting us know that my husbands grandfather had passed away, very unexpectedly. He was 86, but it was still so unexpected to get the news. So that changed our plans for the weekend. We left Friday night to head to southern Utah, so we could be there for the funeral on Saturday. When my dad passed away, there were a few people that took a lot of pictures during the viewing and graveside services, and I treasure those photos, so I was trying to do the same thing. I took a bunch of pictures during the viewing. We spent the remainder of the day on Saturday with family. This is my husband pictured with his siblings.
Sunday morning we stopped by the St. George Utah Temple and took a few pictures. Even though we had traveled down for the funeral, and didn’t have a lot of time, we still wanted to do something fun as a family, so we went by the temple Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon, we traveled to northern Utah, where the burial would take place on Monday. We went by the Brigham City Temple while we were there and took some pictures as well. I love the feeling I have when I am visiting the temple grounds. It is so peaceful, and just a sweet spirit there.
Monday we headed to the cemetery. The graveside was so nice. Losing family can be so hard, but it is always nice to celebrate the lives of those we lose. I took a bunch more pictures at the burial/graveside service. My camera card filled up, just as we were getting finished up. I thought I’d look to see if I could find some individual images on the card that I could delete, creating more space on the card. This is not something I do often, I always just upload all images to my computer and then delete the whole card. I found an image to delete, and I accidentally deleted almost 500 pictures off the card. I WAS SICK!! It is making me sick to think about it right now. I felt as if I could throw up! I was a mess, I was in tears. I felt so bad. I had told everyone that I would get them copies of the pictures, and I deleted them. 🙁
My sweet husband decided to look up and see if there was a way to recover the images, from the card. He was able to find a way to do it. Luckily we had my laptop with us, so we were able to download the software, and recover the images. I was SO happy that we were able to get them back. It still makes me get this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think about it tho. Completely heart wrenching.
After the burial all the family went their separate directions. While the family traveling back to southern Utah was driving, a couple of them got in a car accident, due to a stalled vehicle in the fast lane on the freeway. We are counting it as a blessing that no one was hurt badly. They will be sore, and down a vehicle, but everyone is ok.
All the family and friends did make it home safely and we were all able to enjoy spending time with family and celebrating the life of our Grandpa.
