One of the things my boys always ask if we can do is have a family movie night. We’ve had a few of them, but since moving into our new home a few weeks ago, I thought it would be fun to have a family movie night with the Minions movie that was released on Dec. 8, 2015. Target has an exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD Metal Pak that includes 40 minutes of exclusive content. I knew this was the copy of Minions I wanted to pick up because my boys LOVE minions. Since they love them so much, I decided I’d make a minion banner and some fun minion treats to go along with watching the movie.
Today I’m going to teach you how to make this fun minion banner. It’s so simple! While I was at Target I found some packs of 4.5″ x 6.5″ cardstock that had a variety of colors, including the colors that I needed to make this banner.
I pulled out the yellow cardstock from the stack and used a banner punch board to create the banner pieces.
I used the light blue cardstock and cut each piece in half to use for the minion overalls. I used my scissors to hand cut the overalls.
I applied adhesive to the back of the overalls.
Then I applied it to the bottom of the yellow banner piece.
I turned the piece over and then used the scissors to trim the extra blue off.
I hand cut out a little pocket to add to the front of the overalls as well.
I used some circle punches to punch out the parts for the eyes, then glued them together.
I glued one or two eyes on each banner piece. I asked one of my boys if he thought it looked like a minion, and he said yes, you just need to add a mouth. 🙂 So I grabbed my pen and made some hand drawn mouths.
The last thing I did was string it together with some matching baker’s twine. I paired it with a blue mini honeycomb garland I found in the party section at Target.
While my boys started watching Minions, I started making some fun treats.
I put together some minion cookies, minion popcorn, minion eyes, and make your own minion treats. My boys thought they had died and gone to heaven. 😉
I think these minion cookies turned out so cute!
I even created printable food tags for you to use. You can download them HERE. (Printables from The Happy Scraps are for personal use only.)
We’ve got minion eyes cookies too.
What would a family movie night be without popcorn?! I popped some Market Pantry popcorn and drizzled yellow and blue chocolate over it. I of course made a tag for it as well.
Then we had the make your own minion treat. My boys loved this one. Dip your treat in blue chocolate, then add some eyes.
My boys loved having this family movie night with Minions, and can’t wait to do it again soon! If you haven’t seen Minions yet, it’s a pretty funny movie, you should head to Target and grab it. I found the movie at the front of the store in a display. While you’re there, Target has everything you need to have the best family movie night. Pick up the supplies to make your banner and treats. You’re sure to have a good time, just like we did.
Not only can you get the Minions movie at Target, but you can find licensed apparel, books, and toys as well. If you have minion lovers at your house too, hit up Target for those last minute Christmas gifts.
Do you do family movie nights at home? I’d love to hear what you do for them.
