Do you remember back in April when I showed you a sneak peek of this quilt top? Well, I finally got it done a couple of days ago, and I’ve been trying to get it posted ever since. I had the top finished for a while, but had to get more fabric so I could finish the back, and after I got the fabric, it just sat for a while. I finally worked on it again probably about a month ago, and then it sat again. I tried quilting it a few weeks back, and if you follow along with me on Facebook, then you probably saw the picture of my attempt of pebble quilting that I was unpicking! It was bad! Ha! Well, this week I had my sewing machine out and when I got done working on one project, I decided to try quilting this again. After I got the quilt done, I just kept on going with other projects. I haven’t had a week this productive in a LONG, long, time. Now if I can just get pictures taken and get some things posted we’ll be in good shape, right? This summer has been so busy and I’ve been having fun with my kids and this little old blog has taken a backseat, and I’m okay with it. 🙂 Maybe things will pick back up a little bit when my kids get back in school, but we’ll see.
Anyway, back to the quilt. This is the front finished. I decided to do wavy lines for the quilting, for a couple different reasons. One being that it is a really fast way of quilting, and the second, because if I did straight lines on the pieced portion, the lines didn’t line up with the piecing on the back. {Don’t ask me how I know, lets just say that I unpicked some quilting more than once!}
On the back I decided to make a small pieced section, and because by the time I got to the back, I was feeling like the gold fabric on the front was a little bit over powering, I decided to add the blue as well. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but the bottom section is actually blue with a pattern.
Here is a little closer look of the pieced portion on the front, my inspiration came from here and here. I found these via Pinterest, and ever since I saw them, I knew I wanted to make a quilt similar. I didn’t follow a pattern, I just figured it out and pieced it. The other fun thing about this quilt is I used only scraps for the pieced section! It was nice to use some of them up!
Here is a closer look at the quilting. Nothing too fancy, but I love the way it turned out with the design of this quilt.
On my very first quilt, I sewed the binding to the front and hand stitched it to the back. It took f.o.r.e.v.e.r., so this time around, I decided that I would try sewing the binding on. And while it didn’t turn out perfect {I’m hoping with each quilt it will turn out better and better} it is good enough for me. I’d far rather do a binding, start to finish, in a couple of hours rather than getting to the point of the hand stitching and then the quilt sitting for months until I get it done! This is a close up of the machine stitched binding on the front. The back of the quilt does have an extra seam, from doing this, but oh well. 🙂
Once I got the binding done, I got it all washed and ready to use, and I just love looking at it. I tried to take a few fun pictures of it to share.
The finished size of this quilt is 60″ x 58″. It was going to be a little more rectangular, but I had to make an adjustment because I ran out of some fabric.
I am so tickled with how it turned out, and can’t wait for it to cool down a little bit so I can use it.
