Do you ever have those mornings where you just want to go back to bed and try starting over for the day? Today is one of those for me. My almost 3 year old thought that I needed to be awake before 6 am this morning. I’m not usually awake and out of bed before 7. Today I was awake but not out of bed. When I finally did get up, I got my two oldest to get ready for school, and I started on breakfast. Well, breakfast took longer than it should have, and in turn, my boys missed the bus. I thought, “no big deal, I can drive them.” We all got done with breakfast, went out and loaded all of us up in the car, and went to start it. Dead battery. Really?! So I think to myself, I’ll just use my in-laws truck that is here and jump start it. So I look for the keys, and can’t find them. So I called my father-in-law. He had just left in a different vehicle, and he happened to take keys to the truck with him. He told me he’d be right back to help me get it started. After he got here, it still took a while for the battery to charge long enough to get my car to start, but it finally did. I’m so thankful that my FIL was close enough by and willing to help me out! After all of that, my boys were tardy to school, and I had to go into the school in my pajamas (please tell me I’m not the only one who stays in my pajamas until after my kids are at school!) with bed head, and tell them that they were tardy because of a dead battery. I’m hoping that from here on out today my day gets better. I am hesitant to try running any errands tho, for fear that my car won’t start. And I’m hoping that all of your mornings have been smoother than mine!
Anywho, I wanted to share this cute Halloween wall hanging or large table runner with you all today. My mother-in-law pieced the front of this to be given to her mom for her 80th birthday. She brought it to me and asked if I’d quilt it and bind it for her mom. I was so excited to get to help with it. I think it turned out SOO cute! One of my favorite Halloween colors is purple, so I thought the purple border added a lot . 🙂 (BTW, this is rectangular, it just doesn’t look quite right because of the fence and the way I took the picture.)
I machine quilted it using my darning foot on my regular little machine. It was so quick to do, because it wasn’t a full quilt. Here are a couple of pictures of the quilting.
After the quilting was all done, I added the binding. This is my favorite binding tutorial to use. But I sew the binding to the back, and then machine stitch it onto the front. Hand stitching the binding just takes way too long for me. My bindings may not turn out looking perfect, but they only take about an hour to do, rather than months like the last time I hand stitched one. 🙂
Do you have any Halloween wall hangings or table runners that you’ve made? Feel free to leave a link to them in the comments, or post a picture on The Happy Scraps Facebook wall. I’d love to see them.
Also, if you subscribe by email, and you get this post, will you please just reply to the email and let me know. I’ve been having some trouble with that so I don’t know if people are still getting the emails, and I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out!
