Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. I don’t know if it is because I get to use pink in this boy filled home, or if it is because it is a holiday all about LoVe, but I sure have fun with it. Today I’m sharing this fun Valentine’s Day {14} Decor project with you. I love shopping at The Wood Connection, and love that I have the chance to work with them. This is a project I put together to share on their blog as well.
The supplies that you will need are:
14
Frame overlay
Paper
Paint (I used Rooster Red, Peony, White, & Hippo Grey)
Paint Brushes
Sanding Block or Sandpaper
Wood Glue
Twine
Washi Tape
Ribbon
Once all of my wood was sanded lightly, I used a pencil and traced my numbers onto the paper that I was using. I like to trace my wood prior to painting because if I get pencil on the wood, the paint covers it. When cutting your paper, cut just inside the traced line, when it is done this way, your paper ends up being the perfect size. Paint your numbers and let them dry.
Once your paint is dry, using the Wood Glue, put some onto your number. Use a paint brush to spread it around evenly, and then put your paper on. I like to use a Vinyl Applicator to get my paper nice and smooth on the front of the number.
Sanding around the edges of your wood, once the paper is on, helps give it a really finished look.
Once I had my numbers all done, I started working on my frame overlay. I painted it rooster red to begin with, followed by Hippo Grey. Then I distressed it to let some of the red show through. To finish it up, I used the dry brushing technique to get the white on the edges.
I stapled my ribbon to the back of my numbers and then I just tied the ribbon to the overlay and tied the ribbons both together at the top, then tied my bow.
Once I had it done to this point, I decided that I wanted something a little more. I decided I would put together a washi tape banner. Just measure how long you want your banner to be, add about 12″ and cut your twine. Then fold pieces of washi tape over the twine. Trim the washi tape into the shape you want and hang it on your frame overlay.
Isn’t this a fun piece? You could hang it on your front door, or just on a wall in your home. I don’t know what it is about numbers lately, but I am loving them!
Have you decorated for Valentine’s Day yet? When do you decorate for “Love” day? Since we have a birthday in our house on January 31st, I usually wait until February 1st to put my Valentine’s Day stuff up.
