I’m so excited to be playing along as part of Crafting in the Rain‘s A-Z Crafting Series. I signed up for the letter T and knew that I wanted to make a Table Runner. At the time, I didn’t know what kind of table runner I wanted to make, but when I sat down to make one, this is what I came up with, and I am in love with it. I’ve wanted to sew pinwheels like this for a long time, and a table runner was the perfect thing to try it on.
I picked out these colors because I was going for more of a summery look, since I made a fun Spring table runner last year, but now that it is done, I think I’ll use it for Spring and Summer. I’m sure I can find two places to use table runners.
To make sewing triangles easier, I modified this tutorial, because I only needed two of each color. So I cut squares and drew one diagonal line across each one, getting two of each color. Then I started piecing my pinwheels together. I used this fun white polka dot fabric for my sashing and the white parts of the pinwheels. Have I ever told you how much I love polka dots? Once the top was done, I made my sandwich with the backing, batting, and the top, and pinned it together with curved safety pins.
I used my sewing machine with the darning foot to do the quilting. I always enjoy free motion quilting, I enjoy sewing in general, but I just don’t do it all that often these days. But free motion quilting is a lot of fun because you can just sew where ever and how ever you want. I ♥ it!
Once the quilting was all done, I folded the backing around to used for the binding. I folded it and pinned it in place and stitched it into place.
After making this Pinwheel table runner, it makes me want to make a quilt with these fun pinwheels on it. Maybe some day I’ll get around to it.
As part of the A-Z Series, here are some of the other projects that go with the letters of the alphabet.

I have a table runner very similar to this. Love it! I also love quilting with my darning foot. It’s my favorite part of making a table runner.
