How are you today? I’m gone to SNAP! this weekend, learning, playing, not getting much sleep, etc., you know, all the good stuff. 🙂 I’m really hoping to learn some new blog tricks!
This is a post I shared earlier this week over at The Wood Connection. (I received product in exchange for the post. I love the items that The Wood Connection carries, and love to share with you, my readers.)
What is the first thing that you think of when you think Spring? I think of flowers, birds, and brighter colors than we have seen for a few months. When I saw these fun bird houses and the cute new Spring set, I knew that I needed some in my home to decorate for Spring! And the cute little birds that they come with, I think they are adorable! I’ll explain below, how I finished mine.
I picked out this fun paper from Carta Bella. It is the Sew Lovely line. I love the colors in it. The texture is fun too! I figured out which papers I wanted to put on the letters, and then traced them onto the back of the paper and cut them out. Â I like to trace the paper before I paint, so I can paint the pencil line on the side of the letter, and I don’t have to erase it. I thought about using 3 different colors to paint the back and sides of the letters, but decided that I liked the simplicity of just white. So glad I decided to do that. They look light and fresh! Once the paint was dry, using Wood Glue and a sponge brush, I glued the paper to the front of the letters.
For the finishing touch, I tied a simple yellow ribbon around the flower stem. The paper doesn’t have any yellow in it, but I thought it looked good, so I used it and I’m sure glad I did.
The size of the Spring letters are perfect for a mantel or shelf.
Do you love miniature things? I do! I think that is why I love these bird houses SO much! The first time I saw them, I knew I wanted some! One thing that is kind of fun with the bird houses, is you can choose the size of the base you want. I opted to go with the 2″ candle cup for all three of mine, but there are 4 different heights of candlesticks to choose from.
Before I started painting all the bird house pieces, I quickly picked out the paper that I wanted on the front of the bird houses. I wanted them to match the letter set because I plan to display them together. Once I had the shapes traced onto the paper, and the paper cut out, I painted everything but the birds white. I had to custom mix paint for the birds to get the colors just right. I couldn’t believe that it worked out as well as it did! 🙂 Too bad it isn’t that easy to custom mix paint for a big project. If I thought I could mix enough, then I’d paint a picture frame that color.
After I glued the paper onto the front of the birdhouses, I glued the roof peaks, bases and stands on. These bird houses were pretty easy to put together, just don’t mix up the bird house kits when you get them all out to paint them.
I added ribbon and twine in a few different places and glued my birds onto the bases, and I was done!
What kind of decorations do you have out for Spring? I know I showed you this fun Spring letter set last week, I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to keep it. I might sell it. Anyway, I sure hope it is feeling like spring where you are.
