It seems that for most of us, Summer is here. The calendar might not say it yet, but it feels like it outside. Next week, when my kids are out of school, then Summer really will be here. As I’ve been thinking about Summer time and spending time with my boys this summer, I’ve tried to think of ways that would make my life easier. Kids are always on the go, or at least wanting to be. It seems like anytime I tell them let’s go, it ends up taking another half hour just to get everything together to go, and then without fail, we always forget something. So, I’m hoping that this Grab & Go Summer Fun Bag will help me be a little more prepared.
I got some large beach towels and put them in this fun bag. I got the bag from Pick Your Plum last year, and I’ve never really used it. This is the perfect thing to use it for. I tried to think of the most common things we would need if we headed out to the splash pad or park. Towels, obviously, but this is one thing that I tend to forget, especially at the splash pad. I shouldn’t have to worry about forgetting them anymore, they are all ready to go.
The next thing that I thought of that my boys would ask for was drinks and snacks. I thought crackers would be great because they wouldn’t melt in the warm sun. While water can get warm while out in the sun, my kids usually drink it fast enough that it doesn’t have the chance. Also, I wouldn’t want them to get dehydrated.
Sunscreen! A few years ago, it was the last day of school and I got out a kiddie pool and slip & slide for my kids to play on after school. I got out there and played with them too, and the thought of sunscreen didn’t even cross my mind. I will never forget the night that followed. I think all three of my boys that I had at the time, were up, in pain, most of the night. Their backs were sunburned SO bad! They got huge blisters (dime or nickel sized, if I remember right). I felt so awful that I had let my boys get so sunburned. Every year since, I’ve been much better about using sunscreen. One of the things that I learned a couple of years ago, is that these little tubes of sunscreen are the best for faces, but especially for scares. I have one little boy that has had four sets of stitches on his face. I keep one of these tubes of sunscreen in my purse, and anytime we are headed out in the sun, I try to remember to put some on him. He is used to it by now, and it doesn’t make my hands greasy. SO nice! I also threw in some Aloe lotion, just in case it is needed, because I didn’t get enough sunscreen on, or I forgot to reapply.
Now that you have all the necessities in your Summer Fun Bag, you are all set and ready to go! You just need a nice, warm, fun place to head off too. I’m sure we will be hitting up the splash pads this summer with our bag.
I thought about leaving this bag in my car so it was ready, but I decided to just hang it on the back of my bedroom door, so I can grab it when I am ready.
What are your summer must haves? I’d love to hear them.

Great list! I think I would throw in some chap-stick and a magazine for mama! We always plan for our kids, but sometime having something a little extra for us is nice. 🙂

That is such a great idea! You are right, it is easy to plan for the kids, and forget things for yourself. Thanks for stopping by!
Stopped by from The Party Bunch link party! I also keep a packed bag (actually a market basket) for summer fun. I have the same items, but also chap stick, a toy for the baby, hand wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues. Then when we are at swim lessons, I just grab the basket and leave the bulky diaper bag in the van!

Those are some great additions! I didn’t think about hand sanitizer. Kids always need that! Thanks for stopping by.
This is a great idea! And I’m not even kidding, we have the same towels and bag!!
You must shop at Wal-mart and Pick Your Plum. 😉
My girls are older but we still have a mom’s go to bag for the pool. Wallet or a few dollars plus some change. Cups of ice are a dime. Towels, sunscreen, sparkling water for me, dry non melting snacks so we don’t have to spend that change, Kindle(s) and cover ups. I use the large bags from TJ MAxx. visitng from Craftberry Bush. I didn’t know there was stcik sunblock. My daughter needs that for her little blonde girls!

Sounds like you have it down when it comes to having a bag ready! Love your suggestions! The stick sunblock is the best! 🙂
It is my goal to do this every summer. I start off good then, it goes bad by the next weekend. You have motivated me!
I hear you completely! I always have hefty summer goals. It seems they only end up lasting a week. 😉 A few years ago, my only goal for the summer was for me and the kids to get dressed everyday. lol!
Great list! I love having a bag ready all Summer long. It makes leaving the house so much easier. Your bag is so cute!
