If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you probably know that I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormon. In our church, when boys turn 18, and if they choose they can go on a mission. They leave home for 24 months sharing the gospel. I am the mom of four boys, so this is something we talk about in our home.
One of our very favorite music groups is the Nashville Tribute Band. I’ve talked about them before. They recently came out with a new album, and there is a song on it that is titled “I’m Gonna Go.” It is the cutest song! When this song plays in the car, all four of my boys sing it as loud as they can. It makes this mama’s heart want to burst! 🙂 I decided to make a sign with the words and I’m sharing it with you today. I’ve had this project in my head for a month or so, and I finally got it out. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
I’ve painted quite a few signs, but I don’t know if I have every done three colors of paint. I started by painting the large board white. With my digital cutter, I cut a world map out of vinyl, and then I weeded the continents out, so I had a stencil. I put the vinyl on and painted the map with a light gray. Then I pulled up the vinyl and lightly distressed it so I could put on the next layer of vinyl.
When the map was dry, I cut (with my Cricut Explore) and added the vinyl stencil for the words, and I painted them red. Once it was all painted, I peeled up the vinyl and let it dry all the way, then I sanded the top to distress it.
Once I had the large sign finished, I moved onto the smaller ones. I purchased a board that was 16″ x 7.25″. I cut it into four 4″ pieces. I sanded all of them, and then painted all of them white.
I made matching vinyl stencils for each of the little boards for the month that each of my boys will turn 18. That will be when they can receive the call to serve their missions. I wanted these to match, so I went with gray lettering. Once painted, I also distressed these.
This is seriously one of my most favorite projects that I’ve finished in a while! I was going to hang it up and share a picture of it hanging with you, but I tried using command strips, and they wouldn’t hold. I think it is because of the Evaporative Cooler, and the humidity in the house this time of year. So, if you have any great ideas of how I could hang these without having to put holes in the wall and adding hardware to the back of the pieces, please let me know!
