When six people live in a home that has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room, and it is just over 900 square feet of space, there is not an option for having a craft room. So what do you do? Create a Creative Space in the corner of the living room. For us, this works, even if it does mean the living room is a little tight.
I used to have a space for creating in my bedroom. Same type thing, I just used one of the corners. Sadly, that space is still set up that way, but it is used more for storage and actual creating. I really need to go through all of my craft supplies, and get rid of some…maybe I should give some away to you guys. 🙂 Anyway, this is where I create now. It is a simple space, but it works well for me.
I just use a Lifetime table that we picked up at Costco. I have a few things on the table, but I try to keep that pretty clear so I can use it. Sometimes, if I need more space, I have a second table that I also pull out and use. I have these cute little totes that I picked up at Michael’s and I have punches in one, and then I have some current projects that I’m working on in the other two.
I got this cute metal tiered basket stand from Pick Your Plum and I use it to keep tools and supplies in that I need close at hand. It isn’t overly organized, but I do know what is in there, and can grab it quickly when needed.
I have this IKEA Wire Basket that I use to put twine in. It works perfectly for the twine, and I use the extra hooks on the rail to keep other supplies close.
One of my favorite ways to store ribbon, or small spools of twine is to string them together. It makes it easy to see and get to them when needed, but it looks cute as well.
The whole reason that this space even started to come together was because of this shelf. Clean & Scentsible had posted a picture of this on Instagram a few months ago, and I just NEEDED it. I ended up going to at least 3 different Targets to find this cute shelf. I can’t find it on their website, so I’m not sure if it is still available though. I was way more excited about finding it than I probably should have been, but it makes me happy. 🙂 I filled each cubby up with cute and useful things. Then I added my Paper Flower Centerpiece to the top. I made it for a Spring decoration, but I love it so much, I’m leaving it out all year. I also added this fun clock I got from Pick Your Plum. Brownie points for you if you can spot all of the things that have come from Pick Your Plum. There are a few… 😉
Under the table is a little less organized. I have a box full of twine down there as well. Not all of it would fit in the basket below the shelf. I have my camera down there too. I keep all of my paint in this galvanized tin bucket, it also came from Pick Your Plum. That tote, it is full of cute packaging, primarily from Pick Your Plum as well. Under the table at the other end, I have my paper cutter and my Cricut cutting mats. It is nice to have them out of the way, but be close to grab when ever I need them.
I have my Cricut Explore and Cricut Expression in the corner. I threw together a cover for the Cricut Explore really quick one day. My house is so dusty, and I was tired of wiping the dust off every time I wanted to use it, so I made a cover. I still need to make one for the Expression, one of these days I’ll get to it.
Although you can’t see it in the pictures, these machines are sitting right to the left my desktop computer, which I use for both of them.
I have my fun Calendar on the wall above the computer as well.
While I wish I had an entire room to keep all of this stuff in (and heaven knows, my husband wishes that too!) I am so grateful I have this little corner. It is my happy place! I love to sit down and create here. And for being in the living room, it doesn’t look too bad either.
Where do you create most? Do you have designated crafting space? I’d love to see it. You can share a picture on The Happy Scraps FB page.
