I shared my updated yellow & turquoise gallery wall with you last week, and today I’m excited to share the entire room with you. Coming from a home that just had a living room, no family room, I’m excited that in our new home we have both a living room and a family room. It’s nice to have both spaces, and it’s nice that the living room stays pretty clean most of the time.
This is what you see when you walk in the front door. Now that we are big kids 😉 with our own home and all, we finally bought ourselves a couch. The first year we were married we lived in a furnished apartment. When we moved from there, the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics had been just a few months before, and we found out about some furnished apartments that they used for the Olympics and they were selling all the furniture. We got some nearly new couches from that sale for cheap. We had those couches for a while, but when we moved from AZ back to UT, we sold those couches, because we didn’t have enough room in the trailer we were using, to move them. So, we were couchless at that point. Since we lived with my mom for a year, we didn’t need a couch, and then when we moved into the home we lived in before where we are now, there was already a couch there. We lived there for six years, the couch we started with there wasn’t in very good shape, so when we had the chance to get one from someone else, we took it. We didn’t have that couch very long before my sister in law gave us some of their couches that were in good shape. My kids have been pretty hard on those, but we still have them. So, going couch shopping was a new experience for us. Buying a couch did make me feel like a grown up though.
The room is pretty large, so we decided to place the couch this way to divide it slightly.
This is the view of the gallery wall from behind the couch. You can also see where the stairs are and where the dining area is.
Here is a view from the other side of the room. The gallery wall and cedar chest are on the left in this picture. I plan to paint the little side table that’s in the corner on the left. It was given to us, and I want side tables and a coffee table eventually, so I was happy when I was offered this little table. Hopefully soon, I’ll get it painted. I also wouldn’t mind painting the brown wall a different color, but I have no idea what color I’d go with. What color would you paint that wall? I could probably stand to paint it the same color as the other walls in the room. I don’t know that I’m brave enough to paint it turquoise or something bright like that. 🙂 We placed our book cases on both sides of the front window, and it seems to work well having them like that. We also keep the musical instruments over by the book cases.
This is another angle of the room, facing the front door. (I can’t wait to paint the door! I’m having a hard time deciding on what color I want to go with for that as well!)
You can see where I placed my white table and shelf. I still decorate them for the holidays. This picture was taken before St. Patrick’s Day, so that’s why you’re seeing this. 🙂 I do currently have Easter decor up on the shelf, you can see what it looks like in my post for the Foiled Happy Easter Canvas.
Of course, this is the gallery wall, if you missed the post about that, you can find it here. One of the things I love about this space are the metal baskets on both sides of the cedar chest. I keep blankets in one and books in the other. I found the round yellow one at Hobby Lobby and the rectangle turquoise one at Rod Works. I also love having a blanket ladder. I’ve wanted one for ages, and always thought I’d make one (and probably still will one day), but while I was still pregnant, having just moved in, I just wanted to get the blankets under control. We have two ladders for bunk beds that aren’t being used anymore, so we used one for blankets. I think it works great for now.
Right now, this room is my favorite in all the home! Probably because it is done and put together. My Craft Room would be a close second, if only it stayed clean all the time. 😉 I’m hoping that I can get the bedrooms all put together before too long, but having not had this much space, ever, since we’ve been married, I’m having a hard time figuring out how I want to decorate everywhere. I’m sure it will come though. Anyway, if you have any questions about anything you see in this room, let me know and I’ll answer them.
Tell me, what is your favorite room in your home?
