JOY to the World

Do you have all of your Christmas Decorations out yet?  I don’t yet.  We did pick up our tree (we go with a real one), but it isn’t in the house yet.  My husband brought all of the Christmas totes upstairs a few days ago, and they are just sitting, unopened, in the living room.  I just haven’t found the motivation to get it all out yet.  However, we did get the Christmas lights put up outside last Saturday, and I got the front porch decorated.   It’s fun to have the outside lit up!  We haven’t really been able to do that since we got married 11+ years ago, so I’m enjoying it!  I hope to get the rest of the Christmas decorations up in the house by this weekend.
I do have a few things put up in the house, the NOEL, Merry Christmas and Joy blocks, the Silhouette Nativity, and now this JOY!  Last week when I was at my favorite wood craft store, I saw the new snowflakes that they have.  They are made to be put on a dowel and stand.  But when I saw this snowflake, I loved it, and the creativity just started rolling from there!  I thought about it for a day or two and then I went back and picked up the snowflake, along with the J, Y, and the block for the snowflake to sit on.  I took it home and got right to work. 🙂

JOY

I painted the J red then traced and cut out my paper, then used wood glue to adhere it to the wood.

J-of-joy

On the Y I did the same, except I used green paint and paper.

Once I had the letters done, I used white paint do dry brush the edges.  Then I added some ribbon to them.

After painted my snowflake white, I traced it onto the paper and cut out as well.  Then glued it on.  I also did the dry brushing for the snowflake.  I think it softened the edges.

I added this fun shimmery ribbon to the center of the snowflake, but I wanted to keep it pretty simple so I didn’t embellish too much.

For the block, I painted it gray, then I glued my paper to the front.  I dry brushed with white around the edges.  To cut the vinyl, I used my Cricut and Cricut Craft Room and designed it using the Lyrical Letters cartridge and cut it out and put it on.  (If you have a Cricut and you haven’t tried this program yet, you are missing out!  I LOVE the possibilities I have with Cricut Craft Room, they are endless!)

JOY

I adore the way this turned out and love the difference the snowflake makes!  Oh, and the polka dots.  I ♥ polkadots. 🙂

Cute decoration. Thanks for sharing. I’m wondering where you find the already cut wood shapes.
