I hope you all had a great holiday weekend! I know we did, we spent the day with my mom! It was so fun! The other day, one of my boys was looking for a craft project to do. He found this round styrofoam circle and asked if he could use it. I’ve had this for a year or two, so I thought, why not. Then I started telling him, “you could probably make a sunshine out of it,” then the ideas and thoughts in my head just started snowballing. Maybe I’m a mean mom, but I ended up telling him that I wanted to use the circle, and he could have some other styrofoam to use for a project. He seemed content with that. 🙂 So, I got to work on making this Simple Summer Sunshine and I really adore the way it all turned out!

Simple Summer Sunshine Supplies:
- FloraCraft 6″ Styrofoam Disc
- FloraCraft Smooth Finish
- Sand Paper
- Craft Sticks
- Washi Tape
- Pen Blade
- Paint
- Paint Brush
Using one of the craft sticks and Smooth Finish, I covered the styrofoam disc. I put the smooth finish on as smoothly as possible and let it dry. After it dried, I applied a second coat. I put this on the front and sides.
While the smooth finish was drying, I applied washi tape to my crafts sticks. I did 12 orange and 12 yellow. I stuck the tape on the sticks.
Then turned them over and trimmed the extra tape off with my pen blade. I love this blade, it is what it says it is, a pen blade. You click the top to get the blade out, and push the button on the side to retract it. It’s great!
I got all my sticks finished up, and all the extra tape trimmed off.
After the smooth finish was dry, I used sandpaper to smooth it out really well. It’s amazing that you can sand this stuff. It was fun to work with!
I painted the circle yellow, and then I laid out my stick around the circle to get an idea of where I needed to insert the sticks.
I inserted the top and bottom, then moved to the sides, kind of making a plus sign. I added the sticks from there, trying to space them as evenly as possible. I did all the yellow first, then added the orange. This made it easier to get them spaced right. I loved that I could just push the stick into the side since it is styrofoam.
Then I inserted the orange sticks.
I was so excited by the time I got done with this Simple Summer Sunshine! It was seriously SO simple to make, but I love the way it turned out. I love that it is light weight and I adore the way it looks with my other summer decor. With moving, I had gotten rid of some of my summer decor, so when I got it all out this year, I didn’t have very much. I was excited to create this to go along with what I had.
Isn’t it fun with my Hello Summer Banner Board, Easy Weekend Fun Activity Banner, and my Polka Dot Plant Pot?
After making this little sunshine, it makes me want to get more styrofoam to play with! It’s kind of amazing stuff!
