When we moved into our home nearly a year ago, one of the first things on my list of things I wanted to do was paint the front door. The more I thought about it, I realized that when I painted the front door, I was going to have to paint the shutters and that circle shaped vent as well. I couldn’t decide what color I wanted to paint them until I started looking for paint. I looked at the colors that Modern Masters has, and I knew that I had to paint not only my door and shutters, but also my garage, using Mysterious. So today, I’m sharing with you my Easy House Update with Paint.
When we moved in, not only were the shutters and front door a slate blue color, they were fading. The front door had some spots on it that looked like they should wash off, but they wouldn’t, and it just looked like it needed a fresh coat of paint. (You can see a closer before picture here.) Our garage door looked like it needed some help as well. It looks white in this picture, but it had a few spots on it as well. I didn’t love the blue color, so I started trying to decide what color I did like. I love gray, and I also love that it is a neutral color that can go with pretty much any other color.
You know when you’re planning to take on a big project and you want to make sure that you have enough time to get it all done in one day, so you wait to get started? I waited and waited and waited for the right day to start this project. I wanted to make sure I had enough time to let it dry during the day, so I could shut the front door at night, and I also had to make sure that rain wasn’t in the forecast, and that the weather was the right temperature. When I had a little time one day and I realized that it wasn’t going to rain, the temperature was just right, and I had the time, I decided to get to work. The first thing I started painting was the front door. After I taped off the door knob, dead bolt, and peep hole, I used a paint brush to paint all the groves and detail on the door. Once those were painted, I used a small foam roller for the rest of the door. Once I started painting the door, it got me so excited about painted everything else. This paint is seriously amazing to paint with.
I was seriously giddy when I got the front door finished. It has this nice shine to it, but not too shiny and it’s just perfect! I think one of my very favorite parts is that this paint has never fade technology, so I don’t have to worry about it getting faded again!
After I got the front door finished and realized how easy Modern Masters paint goes on, I started painting the garage door. This paint isn’t recommended for garage doors, but I knew it would look good on mine, so I went ahead and painted it anyway. I tape off the garage and got to work.
I painted one coat on the entire garage door and then went back and painted a second coat. I just used a foam roller brush to paint this and it worked like a charm!
I covered so well and even got into all the little-detailed texture on the garage door.
I had to wait to paint the shutters until my husband could pull them down. Once he had them down, I placed them on a drop cloth and painted them. These were a little more tricky to paint, but I love the way they turned out. I used the roller brush on the sides, and a little foam paint brush on the slats. The detail on these made it hard to paint, but it was worth it in the end. I makes the whole house look finished!
I even climbed up the ladder to paint that circle at the very top. It doesn’t come off, so if I wanted it to match, that was my only choice. 😉 It seriously makes me happy to pull up to my house now! Everything is all matchy matchy, and I adore it. I still have a little bit of paint that I’m going to use on the back door as well. It’s blue and faded bad (faces the sun most of the day) so it needs a nice coat of Modern Masters Front Door Paint!
I love the way the Mysterious paint creates a contrast with the whole house. I didn’t feel like we had that before and now we do. It has made the whole house look different, just by painting these few things, and it didn’t take that long to do it! I hope you like my Easy House Update with Paint as much as I do!
