When we have birthdays at our house, I always try to make them be a special day. I always pull out all of my birthday decorations, the banners, the blocks, the gifts, and even the sign for the front door. At times, we’ve blown up a bunch of balloons or hung crepe paper across their door for the birthday boy to wake up to, but we haven’t done that for a few years. There are so many fun, simple, and inexpensive things you can do to make a birthday be special. A new tradition that I am starting with my family is breakfast in bed. Now, I realize that this is going to take some dedication on my part, because that means I have to not only be out of bed before my boys on their birthdays, but I also have to be cooking early in the morning. Both are things that never happen at our house. I usually don’t get out of bed until at least a couple of kids are up! How about you? Do you get out of bed before your kids? Anyway, since I’ll be serving breakfast in bed, I decided that I needed a way to serve said breakfast without spilling it all over, so I decided to make this fun Breakfast in Bed Happy Birthday Tray.

Breakfast in Bed Happy Birthday Tray Supplies:
- Bed Tray (I got mine at Ikea for around $10)
- Holographic Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Cut File
- Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker
- 12 x 24 Standard Grip Mat
Once I had all my supplies together, I uploaded my file into Cricut Design Space. I measured my tray and sized the cut file to be the size I needed for the tray.
Then I clicked Make It. I placed a 12 x 24 sheet of holographic vinyl on the mat and started cutting the design.
Once the design was cut, I used the weeding tools to weed the design.
Once weeded, I applied transfer tape to the top of the design.
I figured out where I wanted to place the design on the tray.
Then I peeled the backing off.
And placed the design on the tray. Then I used my Cricut scraper to smooth it out.
Once I had it all smoothed out, I carefully removed the transfer tape.
Then it was done! Start to finish, this project probably only took me about 20 minutes, and that included designing the cut file. I love how fun and simple it is to add vinyl to something to make it the project I want it to be!
I just missed one of my sons birthdays at the first of October, but I’m looking forward to January when one of my boys has a birthday and I can use this! I’m pretty sure they’ll be excited about it!
Do you have anyone in your family that would be excited about having a Breakfast in Bed Happy Birthday Tray?
I suppose you could use it for other meals besides breakfast, but breakfast in bed is always fun to wake up to.
Do you have any fun birthday traditions that you do at your house? I’d love to hear them!
