I am so excited to be sharing my Farmhouse Inspired Kitchen Decor with you today! Putting my kitchen together has been a really long process. This coming November, it will be two years since we moved into our home. When we moved in, I was so excited to have space to decorate on the top of the cabinets in the kitchen! Well, being pregnant at that time and not really knowing what direction that I wanted to go with the kitchen decor, my kitchen just became a mishmash of decor. I was storing all different kinds of things up on top of the cupboards, and none of it really matched. It just stayed that way for a while. When I finally sat down and thought about how I wanted the kitchen, and the style that I liked, I decided on the Farmhouse Style. So, in the last couple of months, I finally did something about my kitchen and I am in love with the way that it all came together!

I’ve shared a few parts of our home since we moved in, but not many. I’ve shared parts of our Master Bedroom, my Craft Room, the Living Room and Family Room. These areas are where we spend most of our time, along with the kitchen, so it was time to get the kitchen put together they way I wanted it!
Tips for Decorating on Top of Cabinets
When it came to decorating the top of the cabinets, I was struggling! I decided that I was going to go with a white, gray, burnt orange, and green color scheme. I tried to use some things that I already had on hand, picked up a few things, and put it together. I just wasn’t feeling it. My husband suggested that I take the orange and green out, so I tried it, and I LOVED it! I had a few spots to fill in, so I headed out to go shopping. I do really like the way it came together, and it matches my Cafe Cowley Sign colors as well!
The white crate is something that I’ve had for a few years, and I don’t remember where I got it. The milk bottle and the wood cutting board came from IKEA. I found the cute milk can at Hobby Lobby and I added some vinyl to it using my Cricut Explore Air 2. The wire basket is something that I’ve had for years as well, and I’m not sure where I got it.
I found the cream pitcher at At Home. That was the first time I’d ever been to that store. It was a little overwhelming, but I found a few things. I also added the vinyl “cream” to the front of that pitcher. The egg tray came from Ross (it was only $3, yay!) and the cake stand is from the Target Dollar Spot from a couple of years ago. I wish they would bring that cake stands back! I found the polka dot measuring cups at Taipan Trading. That pretty striped cutting board is from Brett Jensen Construction. I love the texture and color that it adds to my kitchen. I’m not sure where I got the milk bottle (I think Michael’s a few years ago) and the white pitcher came from Ikea.
I found this Farmers Market tray in the Target Dollar Spot. When I saw it I wasn’t sure if it would go with the direction that I was taking the kitchen, but I do love what it adds! I found the gray crate at Ross.
Here is a closer look at the milk can. It was cute with nothing on it, but I adore it with the “milk” on it, and it took me just a few minutes to do!
Same with the “cream” pitcher. These two pieces remind me of those pieces that are really popular right now. I think they are so cute, but I’ve never seen them for sale anywhere, so I made my own! Also, a little tip, if you’re trying to decorate to top of your cabinets, use some wood scraps to make things sit at the right height. That’s what I did, and while you can see it in this picture, when you are standing in the kitchen, you can’t see it.
I still have and use my Kitchen Utensil Holder (that was another super quick project) and I adore my new Farmhouse Inspired Kitchen Towels that I just recently shared. I’ve told my kids that these towels are not to use, just to look at. Maybe I’m crazy, and maybe I’ll give in eventually, but I want them to stay looking pretty like they do! 😉 Plus, I live in a house full of boys, you never know what they might come up with using a kitchen towel for!
Don’t these towels look good on my oven. I do actually have them side by side so we can have a usable towel on the lower oven, but I wish I could keep them like this all the time!
This part of my kitchen was one of the first parts to be finished. I wend on the hunt for a cute wreath to put on my pantry door, and ended up finding this live box wood wreath at Taipan Trading. I can’t believe how much these kind of wreaths cost! But I got it, because I had been to several stores by that point, and couldn’t find anything, so I splurged. My sister later told me how good of a deal I got on it. 🙂 Once I had that wreath hung up, I knew I needed to add a sign. This door leads into our laundry room and pantry. I didn’t really want to have a sign that said laundry, so I made myself a pantry sign. I just used a 1×6 board, stained it, then cut a vinyl stencil with my Cricut Explore Air 2. Painted in the stencil with white, and I was done! I feel like it just made the look of this wall come together! I love the contrast of the dark stain with the white lettering.
This space on the wall in my kitchen has had so many things put on it. When we first moved in, I put a calendar and bin for mail here. I think I was trying to put together a command center of sorts, I just didn’t like it. I had the Cafe Cowley sign here for a while, but I didn’t love the way it looked either. Finally I hung this window on the wall, but I just never felt like it looked cute and the way I wanted it. I tried during holidays to hang banners and wreaths on the window, but I still just didn’t love it. One day on Instagram stories, I shared this wall, and asked for ideas. A few people suggested that I moved the window up and added a shelf. I couldn’t move the window up because I have anchors in the wall that I just didn’t want to move, so I came up with the next best idea (which I like even better than just putting a shelf under the window) and I added a shelf to the window. I stained a board (same color as the pantry sign) and then screwed it into the bottom of the window. I found the three little plants at At Home as well. Sometimes I still think a little bunting or banner would look cute on the window, but I really like the way it looks just the way it is.
I’m pretty sure this wall is my favorite in my whole kitchen!! 😉 What do you think?
It’s the first wall you notice when you walk into the kitchen too.
On the other side of the kitchen, on the far cabinet, we have our Dr. Pepper collection and a few Coke mugs. One thing that we did do is replace our kitchen sink. We have really hard water where we live and even with a water softener, we still notice the hard water. I think the kitchen faucet was original to the home, and on the top of it, it got a little whole. Luckily, Costco had a sale on faucets, so we replaced ours with one that I like much better. I did make the valance for above the window last year, and I added the paper towel holder.
On the top of this single cabinet, I put my Polka Dot Pot, as well as another Ikea pitcher (the small one) and I found the glass milk bottle at a second hand store.
Going into the dining area from the kitchen I have this metal bin hanging on the wall and filled it with old kitchen utensils for decor.
One of these days I hope to finish up my dining area, and I’ll share that with you as well, but I’m not sure when that will be. 🙂 I did get some curtains hung in that area, and I’m excited about that. We also want to finish up the kitchen eventually. For now the Farmhouse Inspired Kitchen Decor is done, but eventually I want to put in a backsplash and I want to either stain or paint the cabinets too. What color would you do the cabinets? I’m thinking a dark stain, like the pantry sign, or a white paint. I can’t decide. I just know that I want to do something since the walls and cabinets are basically the same color.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my Farmhouse Inspired Kitchen Decor today. I’ve been so excited about sharing it with you. If you have any questions about any part of it, let me know!
